Sandusky International, Inc.
High Performance Rolls and Shells for Papermaking Applications

Sandusky International was originally founded as Sandusky Foundry and Machinery in 1904 in Sandusky, Ohio by William Millspaugh. Mr. Millspaugh pioneered the centrifugal casting process for the manufacture of shells for his newly patented paper machine suction rolls.

Targeting the market for Papermaking rolls and shells from facilities in Ohio and Scotland, MetalTek Sandusky International is the world leader in custom-made large-diameter cylinders in long lengths.

As a leader in centrifugal casting for more than a century, Sandusky continues to advance the science of metallurgy to provide customers with very high performance rolls and shells for demanding papermaking applications. Utilizing an expansive die inventory, unique tooling processes, and matchless size capabilities, Sandusky can provide single piece unwelded tubes or cylinders up to 135,000 lbs (61,400 kg) and lengths up to 432" (10,943mm). We are uniquely equipped to machine and drill the large shells demanded by the papermaking industry. An early developer of bronze and stainless steels for the centrifugal process, Sandusky holds patents for numerous specialty performance alloys and works with papermaking customers to select the most effective alloy for their applications.

Suction rolls, made from our patented "Alloy 86" duplex stainless steel, are recognized throughout the world as the industry standard for long life and reliability, and are the replacement shell of choice. Mills looking to extend life cycles and reduce the cost of unplanned failures increasing rely on Sandusky for their replacement roll needs. With manufacturing operations in Sandusky, Ohio and Glenrothes, Scotland and service operations on six continents, you can be sure that Sandusky will be there quickly whenever you need help.

The product line at Sandusky has grown to include our Polycast shells and complete roll products that utilize our core shell products such as suction rolls, felt rolls and press rolls. Our customers have benefited greatly from our years of development of high performance alloy stainless steels.

Sandusky shells are manufactured using the centrifugal casting process which introduces molten metal into a spinning die to produce tubes in a variety of diameters or lengths. Metal solidifies directionally from the O.D. of the tube to the I.D. High g-force created by the spinning die refines the molten metal by centrifuging low density impurities to the bore or inside diameter. Those impurities are machined away leaving only pure, high density uniform material without the porosity or voids that may be present in castings manufactured using other processes. Longer tubes may be divided into shorter sections so that more than one finished component can be generated by a single casting.

"Achieving customer satisfaction through the dedication of all of our employees to world-class Quality, Lead Time and Productivity." That is what customers have come to expect from the Sandusky International division of MetalTek for more than a century.
