Sandusky International began manufacturing this Alloy EPV duplex stainless steel suction box shell using the information obtained during a mill measurement trip. The suction box shell is designed to operate as an integral component of the suction pressure roll. The suction box shell was cast to rough dimensions, heat treated and then cleaned. Next the suction box shell was rough turned and bored, followed by finish turning. The final suction box shell measured 20.13 inches in outside diameter, 17.63 inches in inside diameter, and 117.00 inches in lenghth. The box shell weighed 3,041 pounds. For its application we provided a 125 RMS surface finish.
After inspection and testing, the steel suction box shell was assembled with the new Sandusky designed permanent heads and the covered suction pressure roll shell. The completed suction pressure roll was delivered to our customer in Mexico, where it was used in a paper machinery application.
